"The greatest guarantor of liberty is a citizenry that is a tireless threat to the government precisely because they embrace freedom." — Bea Armstrong

WELCOME TO A VOICE FOR LIBERTY...

If you have chosen to view a website with the word "Liberty" in its URL because you are a lover of individual liberty, then you are in the right place.

If you love what the concept and implementation of the word liberty has brought to America in the 200 plus years since its inception in this nation, then you are also in the right place.

If you are concerned about the rampant erosion of individual liberty that has accelerated in the past several months, and that hit a new low with the passage of nationalized health care, then again, you are in the right place.

We are a group of concerned Americans who could not be silent any longer.

The truth is, we would rather be pursuing our own happiness right now — as the Constitution provided — rather than have to turn our attention to that loss of liberty. We had hoped that we were paying people in office to be vigilant for us. But we are discovering, like many generations before, that the fires of freedom must be constantly attended. That we can't turn our heads on those who are supposed to be minding that fire, or it will expire. Not with a flash, but silently, almost without notice.

The good news, however, is that many of us have been noticing. We have joined marches, and tea parties, and protests. We have e-mailed and called our representatives and senators. And with the arrogance that only those who are focused on keeping power can display, we have been ignored or called mobs or rabble rousers, or those with no ideas of our own.

Ah, but the additional good news is that such unbelievable arrogance has made us angry. It not only has awakened us. It has spurred us to action.

This website is only one of those actions, and we hope it will become a central rallying point, a place to come not only to engage with other lovers of liberty, but to learn about liberty as well. And to find out what plans other freedom lovers are organizing.

Those of us who are creating this website are entrepreneurs, professionals, business owners. We come from across the political spectrum and across party lines. Tax-paying, law-abiding, and intelligent, we are launching this site to share ideas, to support each other, to reach critical mass in our efforts to get Lady Liberty untied.

And to remember what it takes to live in, and foster, a free society:

  1. Personal Responsibility. That means that you, as an adult, are responsible for your life. Other than treating others civilly and with respect, no one owes anyone anything, except for the children we bring into the world and nurture to adulthood. But we CAN choose to support those who are less fortunate or struggling. As a nation, the U.S. has been one of the most generous on the planet.

  2. That government does govern best when it governs least, and that government's only true function is the protection of its citizens from aggressors.

  3. That the free market (when it is truly free — and not the mixed economy we have had for decades) provides the highest standard of living for its citizens.

  4. And that when government intrudes into that market arena — whether in health care, finance, energy, education, mail delivery, or retirement benefits — the result is disaster, sooner or later.

The wealth and abundance that we have enjoyed is not an accident. It is a logical consequence of the Founding Fathers' bequest to us. An inheritance that we have been squandering for decades.

We have two main hopes/goals in launching LibertyatStake.com:

  1. That it will become a place for lovers of liberty, and learners of liberty, to meet and exchange ideas and plans for action to put America back on its original track. There are bloggers who come from a free market perspective, and a discussion forum for that free exchange of ideas.

  2. That it will provide a primer of articles on how a free market, a free society, works. (See "Lessons in Liberty.")

It only took 10% of the populace to foment the American Revolution. We know that we can untie Liberty and have her torch shine as brightly as it once did. There is a ground swell of rightfully appalled and angry Americans. We join them. We join you. We hope you will join us. Our Liberty is at Stake.

Money, Greed and God featuring Jay Richards
(The Cato Institute) The fall of communism conclusively demonstrated that capitalism is the better economic system. Free markets are unsurpassed in their ability to provide material bounty, but in the aftermath of the economic crisis some ask, are they moral? Jay Richards takes on the critics of capitalism. He argues that markets, though imperfect, are a natural outgrowth of God's creation and an important tool for helping the poor and disadvantaged.
